Q: Will I need to have Zoom installed on my computer to take a Canopy RE Institute virtual class?

A: For the best experience, open and log into your Zoom application first before joining a virtual class (and/or download and install it!)...with that, you'll retain a lot of the settings you've added, such as your name. Once you join the Zoom session, make sure your first and last name are correct on the screen.

It's helpful to test your Zoom meeting settings before joining classes on the virtual campus. Click this Zoom Test Meeting link and practice using your Zoom controls.

If you have difficulty joining the Zoom Test Meeting, kindly contact our team at [email protected] or call our office at 704-372-2984.

Q: My camera isn’t working. Can I still participate and attend my virtual (live-stream) Prelicensing, Postlicensing, continuing education, designation or certification courses?

A: No. Students are required to be on camera at all times and actively engaged while attending Canopy prelicensing, postlicensing, continuing education, designation or certification courses. Per Canopy’s Policies and Procedures Disclosure, students must meet all course technology requirements during registration check-in prior to start of class. There will be at least one monitor in attendance in each class responsible for verifying students’ attendance and participation, late arrivals, early departures, assisting students with technical issues, and assisting the instructor as needed. Zoom software is also used to track student activity and attendance so being on camera is necessary.

Q: Am I allowed to use my phone to attend my virtual (live-stream) course?

A: No. Cell phone usage as a primary device is strictly prohibited. Usage of cell phones as a secondary device for audio or camera purposes may be permitted at the discretion of the instructor or course monitor.

Q: If I have connectivity issues during class, will I be allowed to continue?

A: Students must meet the technology requirements during registration check-in prior to the start of class. Failure to sustain a stable connection will count as missed time. If the connectivity issue persists over duration of one (1) hour, instructor or monitor may request that the student discontinue the course and reschedule to a future course. Student registration may then be placed on hold for transfer to another course for completion at a later date since students cannot make up missed time.

Q: I may need to run errands, take calls, or attend a showing during class. Is this allowed?

A: No. Students must refrain from any activity that you could not do while in a classroom. Students will not receive credit for class time and participation if a student fails to adhere to the policies outlined in our Policies and Procedures Disclosure. This includes, but is not limited to, driving or being in a vehicle, video or audio not working, inappropriate attire, consistent connectivity issues, being mobile and not in front of the camera, or doing non-class related activity during class hours.

Q: Are virtual backgrounds allowed?

A: Virtual backgrounds may cause a distraction to others and are not encouraged for use. Should it affect audio or visual quality in the designated course platform, student will be asked to disable the feature.

Q: How many hours of the class can I miss?

A: Students are required to attend 80% of a Prelicensing course and cannot miss the first day of class. You are allowed to miss eight (8) hours for emergency purposes only and/or at the discretion of the instructor and/or Director.

Students are required to attend 90% of a Postlicensing or continuing education course. You are allowed to miss 10% for emergency purposes only and/or at the discretion of the instructor or Director.

Students are required to attend 90% of a continuing education, designation or certification course. You are allowed to miss 10% for emergency purposes only and/or at the discretion of the instructor or Director.

Should a student miss more than the time allotted due to excessive absences or connectivity issues, no course credit will be given and student may be removed from class and asked to reschedule to a future session.

Q: If I'm late for class, can I make the time up?

A: Students cannot make up missed time due to lateness or absences. Students should ensure they can attend the required classroom hours before registering for a class.

Q: I’m not feeling well and would like to lie down. Can I be in my bed during class?

A: Students are advised not to be lying in bed unless there is a medical reason, as such, documentation is required prior to start of class.

Q: I took a class a few days ago and it had a really great handout. Can I get that emailed to me?

A: Course materials are available for most classes for thirty (30) days. You may retrieve them from your course on your campus My Dashboard.

Q: Is it possible for me to get hard copies of my course materials?

A: Should you want to pick up a hard copy of course materials, you must arrange this with our office for pickup by emailing [email protected]  prior to the course date. Shipping fees will apply.

Q: Will my course ever have the potential to be canceled?

A: Canopy Real Estate Institute reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses that have not yet begun as needed. Our minimum enrollment requirement is ten (10) students. Students enrolled in a rescheduled or canceled course that has not yet begun will be given a minimum of 24-hour notice of the cancellation or new course schedule.

Q: When will I get the Zoom link for my course?

A: Notification will be sent to you via email prior to the start of class.  You can access your course on the Canopy campus through My Dashboard.  Your Zoom session will launch from within your course player and you will also access the lesson modules for the course from your campus My Dashboard.  If this is your first Zoom session, you will need to download the Zoom software prior to class.  If you have joined a Zoom session from your computer before, you may continue through your lesson modules until the Launch Your Zoom Session module appears. Zoom will launch from clicking the button.

Q: Why didn’t Zoom launch automatically when I clicked the Zoom button in my course?

A: You may need to enable your security settings in your browser to allow launching applications. You may also access the course, via your Canopy Student/Member Dashboard, from a different browser.

  • On Mac, try Chrome rather than Safari, or Firefox.
  • On Windows, try Edge or Chrome.
  • On Android tablets, use Firefox.
  • For iPads, use Safari.

Your certificate of completion will be made available to you via your Canopy Student/Member Dashboard, once you complete the lesson modules to 100% and your course completion has been verified. An email notification will be sent to you with instructions. You may return to the My Account page to retrieve your certificate at any time.
